Call for consultants: National Maize Post-Harvest Management Study, Uganda

FANRPAN is looking for a consultant to carry out a national study of maize post-harvest management in Uganda. Applications close at 17:00 East Africa Time on Monday 2 November 2026.

The study will estimate how much maize Uganda loses after harvest, in tonnes and in shillings, and where along the value chain the losses happen. It will trace how much public money is budgeted and spent on post-harvest management, and by whom. It will also look at whether the market rewards good quality grain, and at the rules and institutions that govern the sector. The work includes interviews with key institutions and field visits in at least two major maize-producing areas, to hear from farmer groups, cooperatives, traders and millers.

The findings will go to the National Post-Harvest Management Technical Working Group, chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. They will be validated at a national meeting in January 2027.

The assignment is up to 15 working days between November 2026 and February 2027.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, at least seven years’ experience, and a track record of work on grain value chains, post-harvest management, food safety or agricultural policy in Uganda. National consultants are encouraged to apply.
