Vision and Mission

Since 1997, FANRPAN’s strategic plans have evolved through four generations, each deepening our role as a trusted convener and policy think tank for Africa’s agriculture and food systems. The early phases established the network, strengthened regional policy analysis and dialogue, and expanded partnerships beyond Southern Africa. Subsequent strategies broadened our thematic focus to include climate change, gender, nutrition, and resilient food systems, backed by flagship programmes and influential regional processes. The 2025–2035 Strategic Plan marks our fourth generation: it consolidates this experience and positions FANRPAN as a continental hub for evidence-based policy reform, aligned with CAADP 3.0 and Agenda 2063, to drive the transformation of Africa’s agriculture and food systems.

Operational Processes for Delivery of the Strategic Plan

FANRPAN delivers its 2025–2035 Strategic Plan through an integrated operational model that links evidence, advocacy, capacity, and partnerships into one pipeline. We generate policy-relevant evidence across our eight thematic areas through in-house analysis, collaboration with independent research institutions, and systematic capacity needs assessments. This evidence is curated, synthesised and translated into accessible knowledge products and targeted advocacy, while informing tailored capacity-strengthening interventions for governments, regional bodies, farmer organisations and civil society. Through this process, FANRPAN provides concrete services—policy advocacy, knowledge management support and capacity development—directly to stakeholders and clients across Africa. A robust Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) system, strategic business development, and strong partnerships ensure that this work is coordinated, sustainable and delivers measurable impact on agrifood systems transformation.
