The 2025 FANRPAN Annual Regional Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue, held in Johannesburg under the theme “Aligning Regional Policies and Investments for Accelerated Agrifood Systems Transformation in Africa”, brought together over 150 participants each day from across Africa and beyond. The three-day gathering produced bold, actionable resolutions to drive Africa’s agrifood transformation, focusing on financing, inclusive governance, integrated systems thinking, and institutional reform.
The 2025 Dialogue leaves a strong legacy, including the launch of a multi-country biosecurity programme with the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa and the creation of a Soil Health and Fertiliser Hub.
FANRPAN CEO Dr. Tshilidzi Madzivhandila closed the event with a reminder that “transformation is possible when we align our efforts, listen to all voices, and hold ourselves accountable for results that change lives.”
He expressed gratitude to partners including the Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa (CCARDESA), the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa (ARC-South Africa), the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), Trust Africa, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), and the Department of Agriculture of the Republic of South Africa, as well as FANRPAN projects such as the Food Systems Transformation for One Health (FostA Health) initiative funded by the European Union and the Livestock Systems project supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
The dialogue’s impact will continue through national consultations, investment frameworks, and regional collaborations aimed at turning policy commitments into tangible improvements in Africa’s agrifood systems.
