FANRPAN 2025 Policy Dialogue Sets Bold Tone for Africa’s Agrifood Transformation
4 August 2025, Johannesburg – The 2025 FANRPAN Annual Regional Multistakeholder Policy Dialogue opened with a compelling message: Africa’s agrifood systems must transform—urgently, inclusively, and sustainably. Under the theme “Aligning Regional Policies and Investments for Accelerated Agrifood Systems Transformation,” the opening day brought together high-level voices from government, research, civil society, and development partners.
The opening ceremony reflected on FANRPAN’s 25-year journey and recent milestones, including the launch of its Fourth Generation Strategic Plan and the network’s support to South Africa’s G20 Presidency. Keynote speaker Mr. Mooketsa Ramasodi called on participants to seize this G20 moment as an opportunity for Africa to shape the global food systems agenda.
Highlights included the launch of the SADC Soil Health and Fertilizer Hub, showcasing regional commitment to reversing land degradation, and the presentation of transformation pathways informed by iFEED modelling and food systems mapping. Parallel sessions tackled issues ranging from livestock and nutrition to biotechnology trade policy and inclusive food systems governance.
As the dialogue progressed, participants were urged to build on the momentum and translate shared evidence into bold, measurable actions that advance Africa’s development goals.
