The Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN) participated in the landmark launch event of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy and Action Plan (2026–2035) at the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre, Johannesburg. Organized by the African Union Commission’s Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (DARBE) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), this high-level event marked a significant milestone in Africa’s quest for agricultural transformation and sustainable food systems.

The CAADP Strategy (2026–2035) aims to intensify sustainable food production, advance inclusive and equitable livelihoods, boost investment and financing, ensure food and nutrition security, build resilient agri-food systems, and strengthen agri-food systems governance. Key strategic interventions will include enhancing regional value chains, fostering agro-industrialization, promoting digitalization and agri-tech, and strengthening institutional capacity for resilience and governance.

The event gathered diverse stakeholders, including ministers and representatives from African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities (such as SADC, ECCAS, UMA), the African Food Systems Parliamentary Network, farmers’ associations like the East African Farmers Federation (EAFF), civil society groups, youth and women’s networks, private sector entities, and development partners, notably the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), The Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa (CCARDESA), Central Africa Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF), The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), The African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS),The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

FANRPAN, recognized for its expertise in policy research, capacity building, and multi-stakeholder dialogue, reaffirmed its commitment to aligning its strategic initiatives with the CAADP framework. FANRPAN’s participation underscores its role in facilitating evidence-based policy dialogues, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing investment flows, and strengthening regional cooperation to drive inclusive agricultural transformation across Africa.

Through ongoing collaboration with continental and regional bodies, FANRPAN will continue to champion transformative policies that ensure robust agri-food systems capable of achieving sustained food security, improved livelihoods, economic prosperity, and resilience to climate change for all Africans.
