Project objective
To explore the feasibility of using a statistical vulnerability index, the Household Vulnerability Index (HVI), to improve the quality and effectiveness of World Vision’s development and relief programmes
Further opportunities for improved targeting – Social Protection for Vulnerable Households
To document recent trends of HIV and AIDS impacts on agriculture and food security in rural households in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, and update the baseline regional database developed for SADC in 2005

Lesotho
: Pilot locations: One WV Area Development Programme (ADP)
Trained twenty-nine local enumerators on Questionnaire for data collection in Maphutseng WV Area Development Programmes - 2,858 households in Maphutseng ADP, data entry finalised
Swaziland
: Pilot locations: One WV Area Development Programme
Trained thirty enumerators and data was collected - 3,212 households in Mpolonjeni ADP
Data collection using Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) & Geographical Positions (GPS) of all households
Zimbabwe
: Pilot locations: Nine areas (wards) in one WV Area Development Programme
Household numbers involved: 6,155 households in one WV Area Development Programme
Trained thirty enumerators - August 2009, data entry and cleaning completed.
