FANRPAN hosts a 2 day workshop to validate 3 National Policy Studies for Madagascar

FANRPAN in collaboration with the Madagascar Node Hosting Institution - Unité de Politique de Développement Rural convened a National PHM Policy Study Validation workshop at Le Louvre Hotel, Antananarivo, Madagascar, from 23-24 June 2014.

The 2 day meeting was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Pierrot Serge Randranarotiana, who welcomed FANRPAN to Madagascar and personally extended his words of appreciation to FANRPAN and its contribution to the development of Madagascar CAADP Compact and the support of the FANRPAN CEO, Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, during the CAADP Compact signing which was completed on the 13th June 2014.

The objectives of the validation workshop were to:

  1. Share the 3 draft reports on:
  2. Validate the outputs from the 3 draft scoping study reports
  3. Explore more on technologies used in Madagascar for Climate Smart Agriculture and Post-Harvest handling
  4. Identify priority policies and technologies relevant for Madagascar
  5. Solicit policy recommendations from stakeholders

There was lively engagement by the 40 participants who attended the workshop and their contributions were captured in order to enrich the reports. The consultancy teams will incorporate inputs from the validation workshop into the final study reports before final submission.

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Mr Pierrot Serge Randranarotiana provided closing remark to the workshop by highlighting the key recommendations from the 3 reports.

The studies were conducted by:

  1. Dr Roger RANDRIANARIVELO Roger and Dr Lalao Roger RANAIVOSON - Analysis of Existing Institutional Arrangements and the Policy Environment for Managing Risk for Crop Production and Post-Harvest Handling in Madagascar.
  2. Dr Lovanirina Olivia RAKOTONDRASOA - Climate Smart Agriculture Policies in Madagascar.
  3. Dr Voahangy ARIJAONA - Comprehensive review and valuation of the Post - Harvest Loss Management (PHLM) Policies context, food security and agriculture value chain and other relevant regional initiatives.
