FANRPAN launches seed certification institute audits in the four HaSSP pilot countries

Harmonized Seed Security (HaSSP) Seed Certification Audits

FANRPAN engaged the services of South African National Seed Organisation-SANSOR and Mrs Marble Simwanza to provide technical back stopping to HaSSP on seed certification in the four pilot countries Malawi, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. SANSOR was concentrating on seed inspection procedures of seed certification institutes of Malawi, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In addition, Mrs Simwanza was working on seed testing by the same seed certification institutes of the four countries. The consultants provided technical assistance to HaSSP through conducting the following
  • Literature review and key informant consultations in each of the four countries
  • Conducting audits of the four countries
  • Preparations of final reports.

The expected outputs of the assignments are:

  • Reports on
    1. the status of seed testing and quality control policy; status of seed certification and quality control policy in each of the four countries in comparison with the requirements of the SADC protocol on Seed certification and Quality Control;
    2. status with regard to use of the Procedure Manual for seed certification developed in Phase I
    3. use of the Procedure Manual for Regional variety registration and its software.
  • Audit reports of each of the four countries
