FANRPAN's Communication and Policy Advocacy Director Mr Francis Hale and Ms Sithembile Ndema, the manager for Natural Resources and Environment Programme are in Nairobi to participate at the 3rd Special Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) which takes place from the 25th to the 29th of May 2009.
The Special Session of AMCEN will be held in Nairobi, Kenya on 29 May 2009 while the expert's level segment (meeting of African High Level Expert Panel on Climate Change) will be held from 25 to 26 May 2009. The outcomes of the 3rd Special Session of AMCEN will be submitted to the 13th Summit of the African Union (13th Ordinary Assembly of the African Union) for consideration and endorsement.
A special technical briefing of African Ministers of Environment and experts on some topical climate change issues pertinent to Africa's preparations towards the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 5th Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (COP15/ MOP5) to the Kyoto Protocol in Copenhagen in December 2009 will also be held in Nairobi on 28 May 2009.
FANRPAN is participating under the auspices of the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA). FANRPAN is mandated by COMESA to implement the Africa-wide Civil Society Climate Change Initiative for Policy Dialogues (ACCID).
