FANRPAN, lead by CEO Dr. Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, participated at the 4th Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Partnership Platform Meeting in Centurion, South Africa on the 26th-27th March. Hosted by AU-NEPAD, the meeting represented a platform wherein stakeholders in the CAADP process gathered to hear updates of various areas in the CAADP process. Amongst the stakeholders were representatives from the Regional Economic Communities - ECOWAS and COMESA; representatives from government; farmers' unions; the donor community; private sector and civil society.

Dr. Sibanda, in her opening statement, put to the floor a key question, 'Where do our government ministers get policy advice?' To which this generated much discussion around the inclusive and consultative approach that is advocated in the CAADP framework. There were calls for accelerated consultative and participatory approaches from the East African Farmers Federation and representatives from the pastoral farming sector. The Meeting which was well attended also included a press briefing during the first day of events. The upcoming Conference of African Ministers of Agriculture to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, April 20-24, will serve as a follow up to the issues covered at the 4th CAADP PP Meeting.
