FANRPAN visits the University of KwaZulu-Natal Foundation for Resource Mobilization Training
13 March 2009

On Friday the 13th of March the Food Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANRPAN) CEO, Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda led a team of four to the University of KwaZulu-Natal Foundation to learn how to mobilize resources for FANRPAN. The team which comprised of Mr Francis Hale, Ms Sharon Alfred and Ms Thembi Ndema was welcomed warmly by the UKZN Foundation staff. The training session was facilitated by Mr Bruno van Dyk the Executive Director of the Foundation.

The purpose of FANRPAN's visit was to learn from the UKZN Foundation, how to mobilize resources so as to implement winning projects. FANRPAN is currently mobilizing resources to implement its 2007-2015 strategy and business plan. One crucial aspect of resource mobilization that Mr van Dyk stressed is the importance of building, cultivating and maintaining healthy relationships with funding partners. Mr van Dyk emphasized that resource mobilization was not about asking for money but was about asking for someone to invest in the work that the organisation is doing, the philosophy of "doing good and doing well".

The UKZN foundation is a well established independent trust with a mission to secure investment in the development of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. It achieves this by procuring bequests, endowments, grants and gifts that advance the goals and aspirations of the University and satisfy the objectives of its partners and benefactors. The Foundation prioritizes institutional development projects that are responsive to societal, economic and technological needs and problems, aim to advance human, environmental and global well-being.
