Africa Regional Higher Education Summit
“Strengthening Africa’s Human and Institutional Capacity for Prosperity and Global Competitiveness”

Kigali, Rwanda
21 October 2008 - 24 October 2008

The Summit will focus on the critical link between higher education institutions and the private sector in developing a 21st century workforce. Key integrative issues such as economic growth, food security and links to the needs of the private sector, as well as workforce and community health issues and gender, will be discussed and action plans developed.

Continued outstanding economic growth in Africa pivots on building capacity to innovate agriculture based value-chains, including commodity exchange contracts, farmer entrepreneurs, processors, marketers, traders, food nutritionist, distribution logistics. Implementation of the policy and action strategies of the AU/NEPAD Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Program (CAADP) will require human capacity on the ground, in Africa, that embody the view of "agriculture as agribusiness". This is a tremendous opportunity for partnerships in education, especially between African and U.S., public and private universities.
