Call for Expressions of Interest from FANRPAN Network

FANRPAN is a partner in a large EU-funded consortium implementing the COMPETE Project whose start date is 1 January 2002. A poster and summary are included here, and further details are available from the FANRPAN Secretariat. The objective of this Competence Platform on Energy Crop and Agroforestry Systems for Arid and Semi-arid Ecosystems- Africa (COMPETE) is to stimulate bioenergy implementation in arid and semi-arid regions in Africa. COMPETE will establish a platform for policy dialogue and capacity building in the major multi- and bi-lateral funding organisations and key stakeholders throughout the bioenergy provision and supply chains.

FANRPAN is the leader of Work Package 6, on "Policy Development." The expected outputs for this package are listed below:

FANRPAN invites interested African institutions or specialists to submit an expression of interest for assisting with all or some of the papers (1-5) on a part time basis. We are seeking people with experience and background in the topic of bioenergy, especially the policy and economic dimensions. The full terms of reference are yet to be developed. We prefer an institution that can remain as a partner for the entire three-year project period; but will consider institutions or individuals for specific assignments as well.

Preference will be given to dynamic institutions based in southern Africa, but other African institutions, or individual specialists from other parts of Africa, will be considered.

Institutions: Please submit a cover letter expressing interest containing the name and complete details of the institution, the name and position of the representative, a précis of the institution's capacity, and the names and cvs of the proposed specialists.
Individuals: Please submit a cover letter expressing interest, a detailed up-to-date CV, and the names and contact information for two referees.
